Snake Trapping: How To Trap a Snake - A snake in your yard or house is one of the worst things imaginable. It is true that most are completely harmless and actually do more good in keeping little rodents away from your home, but it is understandable that you would not want one of these slimy, sneaky little reptiles slithering its way around your home.

While they can be beneficial, it is understood that they can be dangerous as well. They can attack your pets or other animals you have, and may even bite your child if they feel threatened in some ways. Clearly you cannot have this happen.

Most people may not want to outright kill a snake however. They would like to be humane and decide that trapping and releasing the snake somewhere else would be the best option. If this is the option you are choosing for yourself, then here is some ways that you can trap a snake.

The first thing you want to do is to see if you can identify the snake first. The truth is that if you are able to find out what species of snake you have in your yard, wall, or shed, then it will make it easier to find the perfect trap to use. While there are multipurpose kinds of traps, the more information you have about the reptile gives you the ability to find the perfect trap to use. That will make your hunting a lot more productive.

Also it is good to know what kind of snake you are tangling with to make sure you should be attempting to trap it at all. If you have one of the kinds of snakes that is known to be poisonous wandering around your yard, like a rattlesnake, copperhead, or water moccasin, then you need to hire a professional to do the job for you. The last thing you want to do is catch the snake and then get bit. This can lead to serious injury if not death, and is not worth the risk.

If you are unaware of the kind of snake you are trying to capture, but after catching it you realize that you have one of the poisonous kind, then contact your local animal control to come and get the snake and safely move it to another location.

If you are not sure what kind you have, see if you can get a picture and take it to a local pet store or animal rescue center and see if they can tell you what kind it is. Make sure you are as safe in your decision making process as you can be.

One of the most common kinds of trap is the glue trap. This is a simple looking box that has glue lining the inside of the box. When a Boca Raton snake crawls inside the box it gets trapped on the glue and cannot get away. All you do is close the box, take the snake inside the box and deposit it somewhere other than on your property.

This is a great trap, but you should be aware that it has its limitations. This is primarily centered around the size of a snake. Much larger snakes may not stick to the glue for very long, or may be able to jostle around in the box enough to make it unsafe to handle the box. If this is the case then ask a professional for help.

Another kind of trap is the minnow trap. This works by catching the snake in much the same way that you would catch other kinds of small animals. This uses a wire mesh that is cylindrical shaped. The snake gets into the cylinder which gets smaller the deeper it gets into to it. As the snake reaches the end it becomes trapped. It is unable to free itself from the trap, and so you simply take the trap and dispose of it.

There are also very sophisticated traps you can buy that you can use to trap the snake. These usually involve one of two primary ways to trap the snake. The first is to lure the snake into some kind of trap where, after the snake gets inside, it sets off some kind of lever that closes the door behind it. The door only opens one way so it cannot get the cage open and is stuck.

The other kind uses a trap door style. The snake crawls up some kind of mini-ramp and onto the trap. It’s weight eventually forces the trap door open and the snake falls into the cage below, the trap doors close and your snake is trapped.

No matter which kind of trap you use, make sure you use a bait that will successfully lure the snake into your trap. A lot of experts recommend using eggs, so that would be a good consideration.
